I planted thinck rowns of Crispino lettuce and romaine, both of which need to be thinned for good head development. So, the thinnings becabe my first salad.
The leaves are 7"-8" tall nand very, very tender. They make the very best salad! I plant the rows think like this so i get several nice pickins' without having to wait weeks longer for full heads. I am about to embark on a new venture in gardening for me. I am used to haveing a standard plowed, disced and tilled garden. However with my back being what it is at 66 years old, I have decided to opt for using Landscape timbers and making raised beds and then filling them with composted Cow Manure that I can find locally in pick up truck loads... This spring is the first season that I have had more than 3 apricots - my tree was covered with them, but the critters got them before I did!
We know we have lots of possums (I actually saw one crawl away from my apricot tree one night, so I know they are one of the culprits), but there are also squirrels that crawl across the telephone lines behind our home every day, and we think there may also be rats.

For the past 2-years, I have tried, got great healthy plants, sparse berry production, and the fruit was not sweet. Mostly sour with little strawberry taste. I used pottin mix with some compost added in and fertilized with additional bloodmeal and bonemeal.

So my question is, if you have had good results growing strawberries in hanging baskets, please share how you did it!
